Biography
Russlee Armstrong is a Director in Grant Thornton’s Exempt Organizations Tax practice, with over twenty-nine years of public accounting experience. Russlee provides a broad range of tax services to institutions of higher education, private foundations, healthcare systems, and other not-for-profit organizations. Her compliance services include tax return and various informational form preparation and consulting services include advising clients on the tax implications of alternative investments and unrelated business income, foreign reporting requirements, the use of taxable subsidiaries, and corporate governance matters. Before joining Grant Thornton, Russlee managed KPMG’s California Exempt Organizations Tax practice.

Tax laws and the possible impact on CSU Auxiliaries is an ever-evolving landscape. The presentation will focus on changes to tax law and its impact on Philanthropic, Commercial, Research, Student Unions and Associated Student Auxiliaries.
Biography
Carlos Careaga is the Finance Director for Associated Students (A.S.) of San Diego State University. Carlos has been in this role since December 2013. Prior to Carlos’ current role, he was Finance Manager for A.S. beginning in January of 2012. As Finance Director, Carlos oversees accounting, finance, budgeting, student organization accounts, and assists with other corporate business functions for A.S. This position also provides staff advising and assistance to the A.S. Financial Affairs and Audit committees.
Prior to 2012, Carlos held diverse finance and accounting roles for Fortune 500 and start-up organizations that include international positions. Carlos has an undergraduate degree in Finance and an MBA.
