Proposal Summary: articulate CSUSM Corporation’s implementation of the new CSUBuy P2P system; what has happened since implementation, what’s better from the previous system, what challenges remain, and how these changes have impacted Business Operations and Sponsored Projects. Previous System Challenges Business Operations: lack of built-in workflow, unintuitive user experience, manual processing on the buyer side. Sponsored Projects: audit risk, PI frustration, analyst confusion due to cumbersome and overcomplicated process. CSUBuy P2P Improvements: Business Operations: built-in workflow, improved user experience, improved buyer experience. Sponsored Projects: reduced audit risk, reduced PI frustration, reduced analyst confusion. CSUBuy P2P Challenges: Business Operations: supplier setup is intensive and completely up to the supplier to complete, rigid approval flows, built for stateside, system idiosyncrasies. Sponsored Projects: having a good SME for P2P is crucial, few issues to date but are only starting to use with subawards, which may present some challenges.

Biography

Justin is a self-professed jack-of-all-trades at the CSUSM corporate auxiliary. In his nine years with CSUSM Corporation he has tackled challenges ranging from database construction and data analysis to facilities project management and contract negotiations (with some freelance tech support and copier repair sprinkled along the way). Justin is especially interested in exploring opportunities for process improvement and maximizing efficiency. With a bachelor’s in Communication from UC Santa Barbara, an MBA from Cal State San Marcos, and a background in Customer Service roles, Justin loves finding the overlap where people and systems can be made to support each other better for the benefit of the University.

Biography

Zack Weaver is the Associate Director, Sponsored Projects at CSUSM Corporation and has been with the organization for the past 5 years. Prior to this, he served as a Senior Manager in corporate finance, over a $300M business unit, for nearly a decade. Educational background consists of a BA in Economics and an MS in Accounting.
