Details
Artificial intelligence isn’t just for writing student papers—it’s a versatile tool that can transform the way higher ed professionals tackle their day-to-day work. In this session, participants will get a hands-on introduction to prompt engineering using tools like ChatGPT. Whether it’s streamlining repetitive tasks, generating test data, helping with code, overcoming decision fatigue, or accelerating content creation, GPT can be a powerful assistant when you know how to ask.
This session is designed for staff who are curious about using AI to work smarter, not harder. We'll explore practical examples tailored to the administrative and operational side of higher ed, with continuous check-ins and live demonstrations. Attendees will also have the opportunity to try their own prompts, share results, and see how small adjustments can yield better outcomes.
To get the most out of this session, bring a device (phone or laptop) with access to Google Sheets because this session does not have a slide deck and benefits from your participation.
By the end of this session, you'll walk away with the skills and confidence to use ChatGPT (or another GPT) for far more than just writing.

Biography
Calvin Yun is an IT Manager with Associated Students, CSUN, Inc., where he has supported campus operations through technology since 2013. He oversees a small but mighty IT department that handles everything from system administration to user support. While his day-to-day work focuses on practical tech management, Calvin’s Master of Arts in Educational Technology has also led him to take on training and workshop facilitation.
Calvin has a strong interest in making emerging tools approachable for non-technical users looking to understand and apply generative AI in their daily workflows. His presentations focus on low-barrier, high-impact uses of tools like ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly, and other AI apps, especially for brainstorming, productivity, and writing support.
Calvin’s approach is casual, hands-on, and grounded in real-world tasks. He’s not a formal educator, but he’s been in the position of having to explain tech clearly to busy people who don’t have time for jargon. This session reflects that spirit—an introduction to prompt engineering from someone who learned by doing, and wants to help others do the same.
