In this session, attendees will learn how The University Corporation at Northridge embraced innovation despite not having an auxiliary IT department. The presenter, who brings experience in cross-departmental collaboration, research and sponsored programs, and project management—rather than formal IT training—will share their journey of identifying needs and implementing impactful solutions. Participants will explore TUC’s timeline of systems development, highlighting key solutions and automations created in response to specific challenges. The session will showcase how the team leveraged tools like OnBase and Smartsheet to optimize processes—from document management to project tracking and automated email notifications—resulting in enhanced efficiency. Throughout the session, the presenter will share valuable lessons learned during the improvement process, offering insights that can help attendees in their own system enhancement efforts.

Biography

Grace Slavik is the Associate Executive Director of Financial Services at The University Corporation (TUC) at California State University, Northridge, with over 17 years of experience in financial management and sponsored programs administration. She leads the Financial Services division, overseeing the Sponsored Programs and Accounting departments while driving systems improvement projects, compliance audits, and risk management initiatives. Having advanced through various roles at The University Corporation, Grace has gained in-depth knowledge of the organization’s financial and operational processes. This experience enables her to navigate complexities and implement effective solutions that support the research community and ensure compliance with funding requirements. As an active member of the CSU Auxiliary Organization Association since 2015, she has served as Vice Chair and Chair of the Research Administration Committee and is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the Executive Committee (2023-2024). Dedicated to fostering collaboration and supporting colleagues, she is passionate about enhancing the success of research initiatives at CSUN.
