This presentation will provide an overview of employee free speech and political speech rights and will also cover when an employer can regulate an employee’s speech in the workplace or take employment actions based on an employee’s speech. The presentation will look at recent case studies from “real world” examples and learn about how to address employee speech and political issues.

Biography
Mr. Erickson is a principal owner of McDougal Boehmer Foley Lyon Mitchell & Erickson and has been an attorney since 1992. For the past two decades, Mr. Erickson has represented California schools, community colleges, and college and university auxiliary organizations in a wide variety of legal issues involving all aspects of education law, discrimination law, and labor and employment issues. He has conducted dozens of investigations in areas relating to employee discipline and claims of discrimination and harassment, and has also served as lead negotiator at more than 50 collective bargaining tables representing schools, community college districts, and university foundations in their negotiations with state and national labor organizations.
